LET'S not be coy. During their concert, Symposium did not seem to realise that heralding an England soccer victory was unlikely to raise a cheer in Dublin. They did not seem to realise that Britpop is a bandwagon already banjaxed by cliched bands begging for fame. They did not seem to realise that the loud guitar is the crudest instrument known to man. They did not seem to realise that shouting "why don't you love me?" is in no way profound. And they did not seem to realise that bashing through A Hard Day's Night is inadvisable.

Symposium's performance was similar to that of a school band. It had the excess energy of an Essex stag night and all the grace of a pair of Union Jack boxer shorts.
