Shane MacGowan's sister has been making music for a number of years, but she has only recently had the chance to record her debut album, on the same Limerick label which boasts The Hitchers. If you're expecting the rumbustious Paddy-rock of brother Shane or the gruff white soul of her former boss, Van Morrison, you might be disappointed. MacGowan's muse follows a more ethereal path, and songs such as Chariot E and Well Worn Smile are drenched in echoing vocals and reverberating acoustic guitars. The Cowboy Junkies approach doesn't always work, however, and MacGowan ends up sounding cold and distant when the songs really need warmth and personality. The harsh vocal effects on The Trip sound merely disjointed, while the best song, Trust Me, fritters away its chance to shine.
