MILEY CYRUS
Fly on the Wall
Hollywood★★

When your fan base is almost entirely pre-teen, it's comparatively easy to slip the odd borrowed move past them. The title of Miley's last single, 7 Things (I Hate About You), echoed the film 10 Things I Hate About You. The chorus here, meanwhile, bares more than a passing resemblance to the Pussycat Dolls' Don't Cha. Heck, even her racist hand gestures are ripped off from Prince Philip.

Barack Obama Is Tired of Your Mother****ing Shit
Techno Zuendli Mix★★

Snatches of profanity-laced dialogue from Barack Obama's Dreams from My Fatheraudiobook, read by the president himself, are given a nifty techno remix. Ah, the joys of the interweb. www.youtube.com

JAY Z FEAT SANTOGOLD
Brooklyn Go Hard
Bad Boy★★★★

"I'm a Brooklyn boy, I may take some getting used to." From the soundtrack to George Tillman Jr's Notoriousbiopic, Brooklyn Go Hardboasts a rap from Santogold (as well as a sample from her track, Shove It).

THE TING TINGS
We Walk
Columbia★★

That's Not My Namewas a risible but joyously catchy single. That's as far as I'd go with The Ting Tings. As a front person, singer Katie White has always come up short on charisma and personality. I have €50 that says she's doing reality TV within two years.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
The Wrestler
Columbia★★★

"Have you ever seen a one-trick pony running in a field so happy and so free?" There was some consternation when The Boss, who picked up an Oscar in 1993 for Philadelphia, was omitted from the Best Song nominations for Sunday's ceremony. Call me a stick in the mud, but when a metaphor is harder to comprehend than the original concept (ie Washed-Up Wrestler Who Knows No Other Life Vs One-Trick Pony Running in a Field so Happy and Free), something has already gone awry.

KELLY CLARKSON
My Life Would Suck Without You
Sony★★

This song broke all sorts of records earlier this month when it jumped to number one from 97 on the Billboard Top 100, the biggest such leap in chart history. If you have trouble relating to the sickly sweet sentiment, I recommend substituting the last word of the title. "Booze" works for me!
