EAGLES OF DEATH METAL

Now I'm a Fool

Downtown Records ****

This starts off sounding like Don't Worry Babybut quickly morphs into one of those slithery, maudlin Stones numbers from the 1980s, in which Jagger would pretend evil women were taking advantage of his good nature. That's a recommendation, by the way.

GENERAL FIASCO

Rebel Get By

Another Music/Another Kitchen Records ***

"Does a rebel get by?" this Derry trio adamantly demand to know. Well, I'm not sure I even understand the question. We can ask for clarification when they begin an Irish tour in Galway on December 1st.

FUJIYA & MIYAGI

Pickpocket

Full Time Hobby Records ****

Fujiya & Miyagi are Steve Lewis and David Best from Brighton. Pickpocketis an odd, monotone ditty about the perils of putting your hand in other people's pockets. You may enjoy it.

KATY PERRY

Hot N' Cold

Capitol **

Last month Katy Perry hosted the MTV Awards in Liverpool. Now she's getting married. (Or she is in this video, at any rate.) Having given I Kissed a Girlthree stars back in May, I cannot help but feel that I had a hand in setting her on this tumultuous path. Beware the pitfalls of fame, Katy, you're not very talented.

SCOOTER VS STATUS QUO

Jump That Rock (Whatever You Want)

All Around the World *

Quite simply, this is a musical pairing as terrifying as Alien v Predator. Or, failing that, the most comically inept double act since Steve Staunton and Brian Robson. Jump That Rockis a travesty of everything that is right and proper, but still worth a look on YouTube just for giggles.

BOYZONE

Better

Universal *

High excitement surrounds Boyzone's Christmas single (and, God knows, it isn't over the song itself). The hubbub centres on the fact that Stephen Gately gets (very, very mildly) intimate with a male paramour in the video. Apparently, this is a massive breakthrough for openly gay popstars or something. First Barack Obama wins and now this - these indeed are heady times!
