JOE LEAN & THE JING JANG JONG
Lonely Buoy ****

Imagine what Babyshambles would sound like if Pete Doherty had his shit together. Yeah, crap, innit? But actor, singer, scenester and former Pipettes drummer Joe Lean has his shit together, and it's sounding pretty good from here, like the best bits of all the other mini-Pete outfits.

DAVID JORDAN
Sun Goes Down ZTT ***

Hey nonny nonny! Imagine what Lenny Kravitz would sound like if he came from the West Country and drove a combine harvester. Yaar, crap, ain't it? Jordan is actually from Barnet, but here he takes a detour from his usual rockin' soul route to go for a cider with Wurzel Gummidge. It's so atchy, though, you'll be morris dancing along without shame.

ATTIC LIGHTS
Never Get Sick of the Sea Universal Island ****

The jangle of Teenage Fanclub, the tunesmithery of Big Star and the harmonies of The Beach Boys - these Glaswegian boys have all the right ingredients, and this power-pop anthem about drinking, fighting and being in love could be the perfect accompaniment to a summery Saturday night. Hear it on www.atticlights.co.uk.

THE FEELING
I Thought It Was Over Universal Island ***

You thought it was over after Freddie Mercury died, but it's not. Dan Gillespie Sells and his band of musos are out to resurrect the classic Queen sound, complete with Brian May guitar flourishes and a tune that should have radio playlisters going ga-ga. Bet these guys could do a mean version of Bohemian Rhapsody if you got them drunk enough.

RIHANNA
Don't Stop the Music Mercury **

She may have stopped the rain with her umbrella song, but Rihanna sure doesn't want the hits to stop flooding in; this r'n'b house tune is a bit wet, but it's sure to get the crowd pouring on to the dancefloor, especially when the Thriller-style chant kicks in.
