A selection of readers' posts to The Ticket's On the Record blog after the festival
I thought the whole thing ran like clockwork, saw no trouble either, nothing out of the ordinary anyway. I can't complain - well apart from the mud inside some very leaky tents. All in all, a great weekend. - Dave
Oxegen 2007 looked like a cross between The Killing Fields and Lough Derg. A mammoth list of bands does not mean that Irish youth must climb mud-caked and naked over rocks to see them . . . I object to being surrounded by thousands of Neanderthals. - EmerK
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. We came prepared with wellies and rainwear and anyone who didn't do that were idiots to begin with. Usual number of scumbags around, but you get them in any town any weekend or at any gig (the Arctic Monkeys in Malahide was full of them). Thought the organisation of the event was much better and much friendlier than in previous years. - Susan
So it's impossible to hold a music festival in Ireland without it being a warzone? That's wonderful. I heard a girl on radio saying she'd had a great time, everything was grand - except somebody had shit in her tent, but that was OK because they had a spare. I mean, WTF? On what planet is this OK? - Justin
No one thinks the behaviour at these festivals is OK. It's just that we all know that festivals like Oxegen attract the sort of teenage blokes (mostly) who seem to get a kick out of causing trouble and upsetting other people. They're the same sort as you see in town centres up and down the country every weekend.
It'd be great if you could appeal to their nature or had armies of stewards and/or cops to keep them in check. But that's just not realistic. - Dealga
Getting back to the music!
I saw Arcade Fire for the first time and thought they were terrific. Bloc Party livened up a muddy Sunday no end, BRMC were their brilliant loud selves, Royseven look like they have a solid second album in the offing, and The Hold Steady were a breath of fresh air. A smashing weekend of music.
Saturday was great, Sunday the weather and the hangover kind of ruined it for me, but Arcade Fire were off the chain. I got to meet Beth Ditto, so that's the only thing in the world that matters. - UnaRocks
