OPERA Theatre Company's production of Handel's Amadigi at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York has been so successful that the company has been invited back to New York next year to do a new production of the same composer's Tamberlane.
Jonathan Peter Kenny perhaps garners the most accolades in the reviews: "His singing is unforced, consistently fresh toned and pliable," says Paul Griffiths in the New York Times, while USA Today, enthuses: "Remember this name: Jonathan Peter Kenny . . .
James Conway's direction attracted mixed reviews, however. Some writers ran aground on what they felt was the "send up" aspect of the show: "Director James Conway couldn't seem to decide whether to spoof the piece or play it straight," writes Simon Fleming in the New York Post.
