Which Irish act is Worthy enough?

U2 won’t be the only Irish act to play Glastonbury this year. Six unsigned acts from around the country will compete in a battle of the bands competition tomorrow, with the winner bagging a slot at the world’s biggest music festival.

Nova Static, Juliet's Rescue, White McKenzie, She's a Beauty, Baker Jr and Crow Black Chicken will be playing out of their skins in a bid to impress a judging panel that includes Tom Dunne of NewsTalk and Elton Mullally of RTÉ2's Under Ether.

This year marks the second Glastonbury battle of the bands to be held at The Sail Inn, a pub in Shercock, Co Cavan. The competition is co-run by Sandra Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury organiser Michael.

"It's been an incredible year for us," said Brian O'Reilly of last year's winners, Shouting at Planes. "Playing at Glastonbury has certainly helped us – the experience and the exposure is absolutely priceless."

The band, who brought a busload of fans to Worthy Farm to see them play last year, will make a guest appearance tomorrow, and release their debut album this autumn.
