Minnesota hipsters The Bad Plus (above) have never let stylistic boundaries stand between them and a good tune. Pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Reid Anderson and drummer David King have reached parts of the audience that other jazz piano trios couldn’t get near with their arch deconstructions of Nirvana, Blondie and Aphex Twin.

The Bad Plus have turned their guns on Stravinsky’s Le Sacre de Printemps, one of the most iconic works of the modern classical repertoire. Either they will collapse under the weight of their own infernal presumption, or it will be another triumph for a group that laughs in the face of genre distinctions. Either way, with a multimedia light show and a set of the group’s regular material thrown in for good measure, it’s not to be missed. CORMAC LARKIN
