It may seem that the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble have taken up residence in Ireland, such has been the frequency of their visits of late. But the band have become a welcome sight in these parts on the back of some fantastic live shows and festival appearances.
The HBE story began when eight brothers (all sons of one-time Sun Ra Arkestra trumpeter Kelan Phil Cohran) began to play funk and soul covers on the streets of their native Chicago. Word about their extraordinary shows led to gigs much further afield. Last year the Ensemble seemed to be everywhere, thanks in part to the release of a fine album on the Honest Jon label.
These Irish dates are to launch the Ensemble's
HeritageEP, which the band recorded in Dublin last October.
