Dublin gets in on Lennon tribute act

As the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death on December 8th draws closer, plans are afoot for events all over the globe marking the Beatle’s legacy – including an event in Dublin.

Beatles Night is scheduled for January 29th at Whelan’s, Dublin, where Scottish Beatles tribute band Revolver will play the album of the same name from start to finish, as well as other Beatles material. The night will be compered by comedian George Fox, and will also include the performance of the short play Lennon v McCartney, which was written by Dubliner Stephen Kennedy, who is organising the shindig. “I’m a huge Beatles fanatic, and have been since the age of seven,” he said. “I’ve been watching tribute acts for about 20 years, and going to Beatles festivals – and these guys are really among the very best.”

A star-studded tribute concert has already taken place in New York last month, and in Liverpool a two-month cultural programme of gigs, exhibitions, poetry competitions and lectures will culminate in a concert at the city’s Echo Arena on December 9th. And if you’ve got a spare £530,000 to spare, you might be interested in buying the ultimate Lennon souvenir – the album he signed for his killer, Mark Chapman, was put up for sale by a private collector this week.
