CMAT and Pillow Queens to play at scaled-back festival from June 17th-19th

Róisín Murphy, Mogwai and CMAT are among the acts confirmed to perform at this summer's scaled-down Body and Soul festival.

After a two-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions, the festival returns in a smaller form, with just 5,500 tickets available for the three-day event at Ballinlough Castle estate in Co Westmeath.

Organisers are now giving a first glimpse of their plans for the 2022 edition, which will take place on the weekend of June 17th-19th. Early bird tickets sold out earlier this month before any acts were revealed.

Singer Róisín Murphy will headline the main stage on Saturday night for “a very special” show based on her fifth solo album, Róisín Machine.

Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, who marked their 25th anniversary last year, will close the festival on Sunday night, following a European tour for their Mercury Prize-nominated tenth album, As the Love Continues.

The festival will also welcome live guests including artist, MC and poet Sampa The Great; Californian singer-songwriter Remi Wolf; experimental musician and producer Yves Tumor; and Dublin artist CMAT, whose debut album, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead, topped the Irish charts earlier this year.

Other acts announced include Pillow Queens, Kelly Lee Owens, Lee Fields (aka Little JB), Magdelena Bay, M(H)Aol, Godford, Yard Act, Soda Blonde and Sofia Kourtesis.

The festival will also play host to an array of artists and experiences across the weekend, including a large-scale immersive work created by digital installation artist Aoife Dunne, forming part of a specially commissioned, site-specific art gallery.

A queer cabaret show led by Candy Warhol will be serving up brunch in the festival’s 17th century walled gardens, an area that will be dedicated to food and live entertainment.

Further announcements on musical acts, late night parties and DJs, art installations, pop-ups and performances will be made ahead of the event. Weekend tickets are on sale priced at €250.

Organisers say this year’s edition will be the first circular festival in Ireland, with plans to recycle, reuse and repurpose all elements of the production.

Body and Soul festival has sold out every year since its inception, growing from 1,800 attendees in 2010 to 15,000 in 2019.
