Aoife Ní Chaoimh and Paudie O’Connor: Didn’t She Dance and Dance

Dancer and dance, musician and tunes: nowhere are their symbiotic relationships more explicit than in the music of Sliabh Luachra, where dance music (largely polkas and slides) reigns supreme.

No surprise, then, to find fiddler Aoife Ní Chaoimh and accordion player Paudie O’Connor deeply embedded within every tune on this glorious collection. With an inheritance drawn from the late Pádraig O’Keeffe, Johnny O’Leary, Julia Clifford and the less well- known Dan Jeremiah O’Connor, Ní Chaoimh and O’Connor let the inherent rhythms of the music call the tunes.

They are at their best on The Cuban, a cross between a hornpipe and polka. This brings together what promises to become a staple set of tunes for students, dancers and lovers of the Rushy Glen's rich musical tapestry.
