All-rounders batting for Ivor glory

The Duckworth Lewis Method’s eponymous debut album has been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award. Recorded as a side project by Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) and Thomas

Walsh (Pugwash), the cricket-themed album’s success has surprised its creators.

“This wonderfully quaint little shellac just keeps on giving in ways we could never have envisaged when we started it,” said Walsh. “We never would have expected it, but here we are now with only Paolo Nutini and Dizzee Rascal to overcome. I think I’ll take Dizzee, and Lewis can see off Paolo,” he laughed, adding that it had been difficult keeping schtum about the nod, which they found out about weeks ago. “That was tough for me. I was waking up every night screaming ‘Ivor!’ I shudder to think what the neighbours thought I was up to.”

The ceremony is at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on May 20th.
