Iris Rush Hour***

It's always good when a young producer has the confidence to show off. After an impressive run of releases (especially his debut album Voyage Direct), Dutch producer Trago uses Iris to flex stylistic muscles on an album that is far broader in scope than its predecessor. Trago is challenging himself to see if his musical alchemy is up to some mixing and matching, leading to an album that has room for both the dusty Being With You, where Smokey Robinson's ballad is transformed into a beautifully pitched, strung-out boogie symphony, and the swirling, future-funk euphoria of Joys of Choice.

He’s also good at marshalling his collaborators, and he makes fine use of such guests as Sa-Ra dude Om’Mas Keith, Romanthony, Tyree Cooper and Olivier Daysoul. A producer to note for the future. See myspace.com/tomtrago
