From Beyoncé and Lady Gaga’s killing spree in Telephone to Michael Jackson spending five minutes molesting himself in

a car park in Black or White: music videos have incorporated some pretty bizarre interludes down the years. But Kansas City electro-poppers Ssion have raised the WTF bar here. Three minutes into Luvvbazaar, singer Cody Critcheloe departs the set of his own video, walks to a grocery store and spends about 90 seconds wiggling his hips to Alicia Keys’s Empire State of Mind. In New York, there’s nothing you can’t do.

UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA

So Good at Being in Trouble Jagjaguwar****

The first track from Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s forthcoming II album is an infectiously catchy ditty about getting oneself into scrapes, performed by a bunch of guys who sound too stoned to get up off the couch. (Fittingly, the intro borrows from Bob Marley’s I Shot the Sheriff.) The follow-up to the American/Kiwi trio’s Ffunny Ffriends album is due for release in Ffebruary.

Alexandra Burke’s version of the Paul McCartney-penned 1973 Bond theme was recorded at the personal request of Simon Cowell. (The man is the Caligula of pop – he can do whatever he likes.) Musically it’s a bit of a departure for the former X Factor winner, but the result is actually rather impressive. The girl can really belt ’em out!

Ghosts of Our Fathers (Wolfe Tone, Michael Collins, Bobby Sands) **

"The fathers of Ireland rise from the grave" in this multiple copyright-infringing, historical zombie hip-hop opus. Like the abandoned infant in Three Men and a Baby, Ireland apparently has three fathers. Do they co-habit? Do they bicker? ("If you steal my Jaffa cakes, who'll take their place?")
