And So The Story Goes . . .Cló Iar-Chonnachta ***

An intuitive ease, bred of years sharing tunes and sessions, marks the mood and tenor of this long-awaited collaboration from singer Seán Tyrrell, fiddler Kevin Glackin and piper Ronan Browne. Somehow they've captured the verve and energy of a live session (particularly on the Sliabh Luachra set, puzzlingly christened Micho Russell's Jigs in honour of the great Clare whistle player) without succumbing to the breakneck dive towards infinity that can dog the finest of musicians. Truth is, Browne's highly etched pipes, whistle and flute trace curvilinear shapes around, about and between Glackin's equally high-definition fiddle, each shimmering on the carefree jig, The Old Grey Goose. Tyrrell's song choices are eclectic and richly resonant, and his mandocello makes for an amiable companion on the set, The Cap and Bells/The Frost Is All Over. An emotionally complex and unforced collection that unveils its charms gently. See cic.ie
