Deadly Buzz/Aoibhinn Crónán IrishMusic.Net ****
Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh credits Peadar Ó Riada's Amidst These Hillsas "essential for everyone who needs music". The same could be said of Deadly Buzz, or its lateral-thinking translation, Aoibhinn Crónán. O'Brien and Ó Raghallaigh's Kitty Lie Over(2003) heralded a twosome who sizzled in one another's company. Now they've taken pipes, fiddle, flute and whistle and rendered an entire orchestra of them. From the jagged edges of the opening An Buailteoir Aerachto their duetting whistles on Dessie O'Connor's set, a carnival atmosphere percolates through this delicately chosen collection. A trio of Peadar Ó Riada's tunes are standouts, while Ó Raghallaigh's Hardanger fiddle (in all its throaty glory) ducks and dives between the pipes like an errant child in hot pursuit of mischief. Light of touch and wide of heart, Aoibhinn Crónánis a deadly buzz indeed. See irishmusic.net
