Ghost People
Brainfeeder***
Martyn Deykers's
Great Lengthsdebut found its mojo by showcasing links between dubstep and its techno and house precedents. The Dutch producer is now aligned with Flying Lotus and his Brainfeeder crew, and his new album is an adventurous foray into future funk, where dizzy bass shares space in the mix with all manner of other rubs and remedies. It's certainly a more experimental fling than
Great Lengths, with spacey, dark rhythms, dubby loops and reconditioned, quirky bleeps to the fore on tracks such as
Love and Machines(showing a definite nod to Spaceape's audio palette) and the tough
Viper. What's also apparent is that Deykers himself has happily seized the opportunity to turn tracks and sounds inside out and move beyond the usual dubstep parameters, which he kept to, by and large, last time out. A hypnotic and brave call to arms. See facebook.com/ 3024world
