Nighthood Self release ****

It's three years since Hunter-Gatherer first stepped out of the shadows with I Dreamed I Was a Footstep in the Trail of a Murderer and his beguiling, melancholic wash of sounds won over many. Nighthood is cast from similar textures, but there's a telling richness to the details which makes for a compelling listen. His debt to the premier gallery of soundtrack maestros is much more pronounced this time out, with beautifully eerie and sometimes disturbed sounds amplified and distressed to wring the most drama from the moment. The title track, Act of Sorrow and Pasts haunt with their moody, bruised noir and slippery alien unease.
