Beat Dimensions Volume 2
Rush Hour****

More snapshots from that increasingly prolific Venn diagram where low-slung hip-hop and slow-motion electronica intersect. Beat Dimensions Volume 2sees Dutch scene curators Cinnaman and Jay Scarlett round up the current ace faces in the worldwide wonky scene. Given the success enjoyed in 2009 by such producers as HudMo, FlyLo, Rustie and friends, this set is a good primer on who to watch in the coming year. Standout tracks include the deep, dubby span of Cadeting from Dublin-born Mike Slott (whose own hugely enjoyable Lucky 9Teen mini-album will cause plenty of wows in the coming months) and the panoramic reverb symphony conducted by Nosaj Thing. There's also much to enjoy in the sleazy dubstep clatter that Kenlo Craqnuques demonstrates on Zoid, and the ongoing extraterrestrial odyssey of Austrian beat-maker Dorian Concept. www.beat dimensions.net
