No wait, come back! Seriously. Yes, Black has came to be regarded by the world and its hair-netted hipster grannies as the cheesy face of 1990s weekend primetime TV. And yes, she has admitted that an "entertainer" is what she willingly turned into a few decades ago. But there was a time in the 1960s when Liverpool's Cilla Black (the hat-checker in The Cavern, discovered by The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein) was battling it out with the likes of Lulu, Petula Clark, Sandie Shaw and (especially) Dusty Springfield as the go-to Britpop gal with the possibility of having the world at her ladylike toes. As we have known for many years, it didn't work out the way it might have, but there is enough remarkably solid 1960s pop here to bring a smile to the face and an eraser to Blind Date. cillablack.com
