When it comes to making original music, iconic film director David Lynch has been inspired by singular muses. He's written two retro space- jazz albums for ethereal chanteuse Julee Cruise and produced an idiosyncratic collection of Hildegard Von Bingen's sacred music for soprano Jocelyn Montgomery. Chrysta Bell, however, is a muse of higher order, a cool siren with a stunning voice of rare dramatic power and range. For Bell's debut, Lynch avoids the indulgence of his own recent solo album ( Crazy Clown Time) and writes simpler and straighter songs. Bell's sensual voice sears Lynch's signature dream pop sound of languid melodies and laidback rhythms with a brooding and haunting blues, at once smooth and low.
