Hark, what’s that sound? That is the sound of Warpaint, a bunch of Los Angeles hipsters who’re seducing more and more commoners every day with their mystical desert blues, cooing ethereal vocals and hazy atmospherics.

If someone is planning to shoot a new-school western for the Sundance generation involving stoned cowboys and cowgirls, here’s the soundtrack.

While Warpaint are based in Echo Park in LA, Emily Kokal, Jen Lindberg and Theresa Wayman hail from various spots in Oregon and Nevada. They first made a splash five years ago, although there have been a few line-up changes since then – Lindberg’s sister, actress Shannyn Sossamon, was one of the band’s many drummers.

Their first release was the six-song Exquisite CorpseEP, produced by Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, and the band have spent the past few months putting the finishing touches to their debut album, with Rough Trade already in the frame to release it later this year.
