And 30 years later they’re still around. These Glasgwegians started off as a competently mediocre indie band who quickly adopted (and just as soon discarded) jangly guitars, garage rock and psychedelia.

In 1991, however, Primal Scream – fronted by the whippet-thin Bobby Gillespie – released the landmark album Screamadelica, which fused smiley-faced acid house antics and techno rhythms with the kind of stoned lurch that informed The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street.

Primal Scream has never looked back from that point (winning the inaugural Mercury Music Prize gong helped, no doubt). While they’ve continued apace over the past 20 years, releasing quality tracks here and there, they have never surpassed that groundbreaking album.
