It wouldn't be summer without . . .

Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, says Seán Ban Breathnach, sports commentator on Raidió na Gaeltachta.

"Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, the inter-Gaeltacht senior and junior football championship, takes place each Whit weekend. It's massive. It brings 8,000 people to the area; 20 clubs from all over the Gaetlachts. This year it was in Ballyvourney [in Co Cork]. We all go. It's the one thing on our agenda. The next day 600 students come to Coláiste Lurgan [in Inverin, Co Galway\]. We have about 12 of them staying with us. That for me is when summer has arrived - and I don't stop talking for the next three months." ... Catherine Foley
