Since his death in 1984, the Northern Irish landscape artist Maurice Wilks has remained consistently popular, thanks to the easy charm of his work. An oil showing a west of Ireland view is very typical of the painter's style and should do well at a sale next Thursday at Drum's of Malahide, Co Dublin: the picture carries an estimate of £3,000-£3,500.
The auction, the result of two house clearances, also offers a large amount of furniture, such as a Regency fold-over cardtable with satinwood banding and ormolu mounts (£3,000-£3,500). A set of six spoon-back mahogany Victorian dining chairs carrying the name of their maker is expected to fetch £1,700-£1,800 and a 1920s German art deco set of china dressing table ornaments, £150-£300.
