GIVEN the current resurgence of interest in Paul Henry, it should come as no surprise to learn that a Connemara landscape by this artist made the top price at Thomas P. Adams & Co's auction in Blackrock, Dublin, last Tuesday. Lakeside Cottages carried a pre sale estimate of £12,000-£16,000 but eventually went for £19,000, while a portrait of Dorothy Wilde by Sir Joshua Reynolds made its top estimate of £4,000.

Children Paddling Near Dalkey by James Le Jeune sold for £3,100, and another picture by the same artist called The Final/ Furlong made £2,450. George Campbell's Blitz Playground - Belfast went for £2,200, as did George Russell's Mystical Dream, while James Humbert Craig's The Bog Road fetched £1,800. A canvas by French artist Emile Bernard showing Egyptian workers along the Nile failed to secure a buyer at the time, but according to Adams, "there have been inquiries about it since the sale".
