Galway event's success ensures return of dealers

The second annual Galway antiques fair takes place next week from Tuesday to Thursday inclusive. Once again, it is being organised by Karen Kiely and held in the city's Great Southern Hotel in Eyre Square.

Last year's inaugural event was sufficiently successful to entice many of the same dealers back again, and among those taking stands are Adare's George Stacpoole and Carol O'Connor, Satch Kiely and Jonathan Beech, both from Westport, Co Mayo, and Dublin-based John Farrington. Robin O'Donnell and John Forde of Limerick will be showing 18th and 19th century furniture, prints, mirrors and curios, while local dealer, Philip Maguire intends to offer Victorian and Edwardian furniture, mirrors and paintings.

Dun Laoghaire offers furniture, collectables

The Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire is the venue for an Easter Monday antiques fair, where more than 50 dealers from across the Republic are expected to attend. Mullaly's of Johnstown, for example, will be bringing a number of Irish pieces, such as a Regency figured mahogany cellarette and a Regency brass-inlaid sideboard.

Both Clarinbridge Antiques of Co Galway and the Old Trading Post Antiques from Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, are to have old advertising and pub memorabilia on their stands. A range of small furniture will be a feature of the presentations from Left Bank Antiques of Athlone and Cummins of Dublin.

A number of dealers specialising in collectables, such as coins and banknotes, military medals and toys will also be at the fair.

Jewellery and a dash of silver at the Castle

An embroidered Victorian footstool and a range of Victorian brass fire dogs and irons will be among the items on sale at the Dublin Castle Antiques and Collectables Fair in Dublin Castle tomorrow.

The fair will also feature a wide selection of Victorian and Edwardian jewellery, including fob watches, gold braclets, chains and watches.

Other items on offer include silver, linen, lace, antiquarian books, maps, coins, medals, stamps and prints. The fair, which is being held in the Old Coach House, opens at 10.30 a.m.
