Little blighters driving you to distraction? Young football fans already starting to miss the busy group stages? Well, get them to the Irish Film Institute Family Festival.

Organised in conjunction with the Temple Bar Cultural Trust, the busy event, which begins on Thursday, July 8th, includes copious suitable screenings and more than a few promising participatory events. On July 10th, a fortnight before Toy Story 3opens, attendees can get a gawp at the much anticipated animated feature and speak to the picture's producer and director. The festival will also screen Tomm Moore's The Secret of Kells, recent recipient of an Oscar nomination, in the (we hope) balmy open air.

Limits of space prohibit a full listing of the many workshops, but look out for Reelmagic: Temple Bar Uncovered!, during which budding Herzogs and Hitchcocks will get the chance to hone their skills with film-maker Niamh Burke-Kennedy. Fancy exercising your inner Keith Haring? Spray OK! invites creative youngsters to practice their graffiti skills in an environment where (one assumes) no copper is likely to feel their collar.

Three animation events help explain the rudiments of that flexible medium: Dinomation involves, ahem, dinosaurs; Flick Those Books involves, well, flick books and Sporting Animations focuses on, yes, sport. A family pass including four tickets is available for a very reasonable €15. www.ifi.ie
