In the editions of Saturday, November 20th, a number of articles contained quotes incorrectly attributed to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr John O'Donoghue TD.
In "This Week They Said" (page 16), after a quote from the Minister of State, Ms Liz O'Donnell TD, the following attribution appeared: "Liz O'Donnell PD, of remarks by the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue, about cracking down on asylum-seekers." The Irish Times accepts that Mr O'Donoghue never used the term "cracking down" in respect of asylum-seekers.
In an article headed "Unrepentant PD rattles the FF cage" (page 10), it was stated: "John O'Donoghue did himself no favours on Sunday when . . . he spoke of the State being `swamped' by asylum-seekers." The editorial also stated: "The Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue, has spoken of how the State was being `swamped' by asylum-seekers". The Irish Times accepts that Mr John O'Donoghue never used the term or said that the State was "being `swamped' by asylum-seekers".
In a report headed "Agencies differ on foreign adoptions" in last Wednesday's editions the name of the member of the Adopted People's Association who spoke at a Law Society seminar was given as Anton MacSuibhne. The English version of the name, Sweeney, should have been given.
