An article in last Saturday's Weekend made reference to a writer named Ann O'Connell who was to appear on a television programme about The Irish Times literary awards. The writer in question is Anne O'Carroll.
A report in the editions of November 6th, headed "Free phone scheme extended to more elderly people", may have given rise to some confusion. The fact is that pensioners in receipt of a living alone allowance are entitled to have a telephone installed for £50, but the Reach Out Be a Good Neighbour Campaign is prepared to pay this £50 to the extent that its funds allow. Application forms are available from the Department of Social Welfare for those pensioners who have a living alone allowance, and applicants should fill out these forms and send them to Mr Michael Kelly at Block 3, Ground Floor, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 1 to arrive not later than November 20th.
