Q: I lost out on my first choice of Veterinary Medicine through random selection even though I had the required 575 points, what are my chances of being offered it in Round 2?

I don’t have the answer to this. How many places will come available will depend on the number of students that decline their place through the first round. Also the amount in the random sampling pool will also have a bearing. Obviously the less people that didn’t get it due to random sampling the better it is for you in getting offered a place in round 2.

Q: Business in UL has gone up to 410 from 375 in 2012, was a35 point rise expected & would you feel the 2nd round will see a drop to anywhere near last years levles

We have seen an increase in the demand for Business courses and obviously a demand for this course hence the increase of points. This course did not go down in points in round 2 last year.

My guess would be that it is unlikely to go down by that much to meet last years points.

Q: I got my first round offer in my email but its for the course that was second on my CAO(Electrical engineering UCC), dose this mean i didn’t get into my first choice(Computer Science UCC)

This means for one reason or another (points or entry requirements) you are not entitled to a place on this course in round one. If you accept your 2nd preference in round one the CAO will keep trying to get you into your 1st preference in the next rounds if you become entitled to a place.

Q: My daughter got 510 points and was offered her second choice, science in UCD. If she accepts this is there a possibility she may be offered her first choice, science in TCD in a second round offer. Thanks

If the points go down for Science in Trinity, well then yes there is the possibility that she might be offered her first choice. If this happens then has the choice to stay in UCD or swap over to Trinity.

Q: I’m 5 points off my first choice which is commerce in ucc, do you think there will be second round offers for the course?

There is no way of telling for sure, however last year there were places offered in round two for this course and the points dropped by 5 points so there is hope.

Q: I got 500 points and was looking for Science. I have missed out by 5 points and been offered BA instead ( really don’t want BA). What are the chances of being offered Science in the second round?

The demand for Science courses have increased this year . However, the points could come down. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing. Whether the points will come down or not will depend on the number of people who take up on this offer. The more that decline then obviuosly the more place sthat will become available.

Q: Didn’t get a Level 8 Offer but got level 7, thinking about repeating Leaving. If I do not take up the level 7 can I still stay in the system for the 2nd round offer on level 8.

Yes. You will stay in the system.

Q: I got offered my 4th choice in my CAO but I wanted the first it is Commerce in Nuig and the point requirements were 340 last year and I got 370 and completed the minimum requirements, does that mean I should get that offer in round 2? please help

The points for Commerce in NUIG today are 375 so you are 5 points short. It is possible the points could drop in round 2 and you might be offered a place but here is no guarantee of this so you should strongly consider accepting your prefenece place today.

Q: My son did not get any offers. He got 275 points. For all his level 8 picks he did not reach the min entry requirements and was not offered any of his 3 level 7 picks. Do you think he might get something in round 2?

He will not be offered any of his level 8s at any time if he has not met the entry requirements for the courses. Depending what he has in his level 6/7 list he could be offered a place in the next rounds if places become available. Has he applied for any FETAC PLC courses? If he completes a FETAC course he could apply next year to the CAO on the basis of his results in the FETAC course and not his Leaving Certificate.

Q: I didn't get offered anything. I got 375 points and was expecting to get offered a business course in UL that was 375 last year but that's up to 410 now, little chance that'll come down in round 2?

It could come down but you need it to come down by quite a bit. Whether it will come down or not will depend on the number of people who decline the offer hence offering places to waiting candidates .
