Twelve illustrations from some of Ireland’s brightest talents will be up for auction at Hodges Figgis this festive season. Visit the store to see the pieces on display until Thursday, December 11th, and place your bid for the perfect Christmas gift!

The auction consists of 12 pieces by Irish illustrators Chris Judge, Niamh Sharkey, PJ Lynch, Chris Haughton, Steve Simpson, Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick, Michael Emberley, Oisín McGann, Olwyn Whelan, Tatyana Feeney, Paul Howard and Alan Clarke.

The images are from Beyond the Stars, an anthology of new work from a stellar line-up of Irish authors and illustrators, published in support of Roddy Doyle’s Fighting Words creative writing centre.

Fighting Words was established by Roddy Doyle and Sean Love and inspired by Dave Eggers’ 826 Valencia in San Francisco. Fighting Words is located in Dublin city centre, and provides storytelling workshops and field trips for primary school groups, creative writing workshops for secondary students, and occasional seminars, workshops and tutoring for adults. All tutoring is free.

“Fighting Words is not state funded,” explains Roddy Doyle, “and our existence is dependent on people who believe passionately in what we do – like the writers and illustrators of these brilliant stories. We are especially grateful to a great friend of Fighting Words, Sarah Webb, the creative and driving force behind this wonderful collection.”

A public presentation ceremony will be held at the bookstore on 56-58 Dawson St., Dublin 2, on December 11th, from 5.30-8pm, with refreshments and music from St Patricks men’s and boys’ choir.
