Villains are doomed to terrible fates in James Bond movies, but the mortality rate for women who get involved with the spy is high too. According to a new survey compiled by somebody with the time for such research, nearly a third of Bond’s lovers (16 out of 51) have been killed in action.

Jill Masterson, played by Shirley Eaton in Goldfinger, was the first to expire when her body was painted gold. Helga Brandt, played by Karin Dor in You Only Live Twice, ended up in a piranha-infested tank. And in a nod to Goldfinger, Gemma Arterton's Strawberry Fields was covered in oil in the latest 007 film, Quantum of Solace. Maybe sex in this series is safe only for men.
