While it may seem everyone has skipped off to Croatia for Bodytonic and Nightflight’s Airbound festival this weekend, there’s still plenty going on in the capital and around the country. After all, it’s not every weekend that a techno innovator such as Juan Atkins (above) flies in to man the decks at two Irish shows (Friday, Dublin and Sunday, Waterford). The Detroit native has been producing bugged-out, visionary electronic music since the early 1980s and still lodges at the cutting edge.

Matthew Dear brings his Audio alter-ego to Dublin’s Twisted Pepper on Sunday, so expect a night of belligerently brilliant cuts such as Mouth to Mouth from him.

Elsewhere, there’s a Mantua mini-fest hitting Galway, the Westport House Soul Weekender brings the block party buzz to Co Mayo and Microfest in Limerick on Saturday features more DJs in action than you shake a very big disco stick at.
