There's a strong participatory element to Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander's work. She could be described as a conceptual artist, but don't let that put you off: her pieces are user-friendly rather than dry and theoretical. In A Day Like Any Other, a mid- career retrospective, visitors will be invited to contribute to the exhibition.
Neuenschwander has staged
I Wish Your Wishat several venues since 2003. You are invited to take a ribbon bracelet, imprinted with one of hundreds of wishes from past participants, so long as you, in turn, write down your own wish on a slip of paper. In her video
The Tenant, the camera follows a soap bubble as it seems to magically wander through a deserted house. For another participatory work, First Love, a police sketch artist makes portrait drawings based on visitors' descriptions of their first loves.
