WOMEN MEAN Business magazine, in association with O2 has launched the third annual O2 Women Mean Business Conference and Awards, which will take place in Dublin on September 28th. O2 is title sponsor of the awards, which are designed to recognise the achievements of Ireland’s businesswomen and there are also two associate sponsors.
Entry to the awards is via a dedicated webpage, www.womenmeanbusiness.com/awards where women can either nominate themselves or a businesswoman whom they admire. The closing date for entries is July 31st. A shortlist of entries will be generated and an independent judging panel will select the winner in each category.
Speaking at the launch, Rosemary Delaney, managing director of WMB Publishing, said: “In the climate we find ourselves in, we need true leaders, visionaries that are prepared to put their neck on the line – to take bold steps that others wouldn’t dare dream of. These women build small and large companies – they employ others; they motivate and inspire; they lead by example. Now more than at any other time, we need businesswomen to be vocal, to take charge.”
The day-long event will include some unique speakers including founder of Coffee Republic, Sahar Hashemi; entrepreneur and Irish Dragons Den star Sarah Newman; Michael O’Doherty, co-founder of Plexus Bio-Energy; and Marian Corcoran, head of management consulting integrated markets in Ireland for Accenture.
Danuta Gray, chief executive of Telefónica O2 Ireland, said at the launch that “Irish businesses continue to benefit from the fresh ideas, dedication, and leadership that women can bring. In recognising their achievements, these awards are encouraging even more women to succeed in their chosen field.” Four awards will be presented: O2 WMB Businesswoman of the Year Award; Accenture WMB Big Idea Award; WMB Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award; and HP WMB Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
