Who qualifies for free banking?

AIB: Full-time students and people over 60 years of age do not pay transaction or quarterly maintenance charges. These fees are also waived for graduate account holders for 18 months. No set-up fees for standing orders or direct debits are charged to any customer.

Bank of Ireland: Full-time students, graduates (for up to two years) and "golden years" customers (aged 60 and over) are eligible for free banking. No set-up fees for standing orders or direct debits exist.

National Irish Bank: All Freebank customers qualify for free banking, but this account has no overdraft facility. NIB's standard current account also offers free transactions as long as the account is in credit but some charges, including set-up fees for standing orders and direct debits, still apply.

Permanent TSB: All customers of its new current account qualify for free banking, even if they are overdrawn. Existing customers, who may be paying charges, will need to notify the bank if they wish to move to the new account.

Ulster Bank: Customers do not have to pay quarterly fees or transaction charges on its standard current account as long as they maintain a balance of at least €500. Set-up charges for direct debits and standing orders are waived for the first three months. Students and graduates (for two years) do not have to pay transaction charges, even if they are overdrawn.
