THE Margin couldn't help but notice an intriguing new way of selling pensions being introduced in Turkey by Istanbul football club Besiktas.
Besiktas plans to introduce special "combination" match tickets which will contribute to a new pension scheme. "Come to the match and retire," will be the slogan for Besiktas supporters.
Under the scheme, Besiktas supporters would get a return of four to one on their contributions and would be able to take out credit on the scheme after three years.
The football club has not gone into detail about how the scheme will work but according to a spokesman quoted by Reuter, expect to make a $10 million every year from the scheme.
Given the Irish passion for soccer, can we expect the bosses of Shels, Rovers and other league clubs to troop over to Istanbul to find out how this magic money-making scheme works?
