Apple to enter smart home speaker market with HomePod

Tech Tools: Device launches in December but no news of when it will arrive in Ireland

The seven-inch speaker has an A8 chip inside and a lot of smart technology that ensures it can detect your voice over music

Apple has already moved into smart audio tech with its AirPods and has been expanding the capabilities of its digital assistant Siri, so it may not have come as a massive surprise that it is planning its own smart home speaker.

The HomePod brings Siri capabilities to a decent speaker that will have access to your Apple Music library.

The seven-inch speaker has an A8 chip inside and a lot of smart technology that ensures it can detect your voice over music and will sense its surroundings so it can adapt sound to the room and its acoustics.

It can also detect if you add another HomePod to the same room.

The bad news? It’s not available until December. The worse news? It will only initially be available in Australia, the UK and the US.

No plans for Ireland just yet.
