Even the Taoiseach is clearly in election mode. Addressing the crowd at the announcement of 775 new jobs at 3Com in Blanchardstown yesterday evening, he couldn't help slipping in some self-publicity: "I'm particularly delighted to note that 3Com is on the border of County Meath - I have to say that!" Junior ministers Austin Currie and Joan Burton, both of whom are TDs for Blanchardstown's Dublin West constituency, guffawed dutifully. They both also rushed out statements "welcoming" the new jobs announcement.
