Ireland's economic growth and success will not continue unless more than 200,000 workers can be recruited abroad, the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, said at the promotion of the Jobs Ireland Brochure and interactive CD ROM in Dublin yesterday.

"In the new economy, companies will relocate when there's not a sufficient number of people with skills for the jobs," Ms Harney, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, said.

The package is being produced in response to the interest generated internationally by the Jobs Ireland campaign, introduced last year.

The brochure and electronic magazine aim to raise awareness of the practicalities of choosing Ireland as a place to work and will feature the personal experiences of individuals working in Ireland in various industry sectors.

Government employment and recruitment policies were working, the Tanaiste said.

"They have had a tremendous impact already," she said. "For the year 2000, I issued 18,000 work permits. That was a threefold increase on last year and, in addition to that, 1,400 people got working visas. The Jobs Ireland campaign is very much about advertising the opportunities available in Ireland."
