"Don't go changing to try to please me," was the line of choice for the majority of Standard Life members voting on the demutualisation proposal last week. More than 54 per cent of voting members supported the Standard Life board and the retention of the company's mutual status.

Almost 46 per cent of votes were in favour of demutualisation, but this was nearly 300,000 votes short of the 75 per cent majority required.
