Watch out Eircell and Digifone! Italian mobile phone users learned of a price hike by the two main operators, and this week called a strike to protest. The action - a 15-minute mobile phone blackout - was set for Monday, and backed by almost all of the country's politicians. As the big day approached, and support for the strike swelled, the pressure became too much for the Italian telecommunications regulator. He called on Telecom Italia Mobile and Omnitel to suspend the price increases, and the two companies said they were willing to think again.
