Public sector employment rose by 3,400 last December, compared to the same month the previous year, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office yesterday.

The data show that 22,000 people were employed in the public sector - excluding health. Employment in the semi-State sector increased by 1,700, the education sector rose by 1,000, and employment in the defence sector fell by 300.
