WALL Street stocks jumped higher yesterday, lifting the Dow Jones industrial average and other indexes to record levels, as two new economic reports quelled concerns about inflation and higher interest rates.

The New York Stock Exchange's composite index rose 3 .97 to 363.70, just 4 cents shy of its all-time best. The Nasdaq composite index rose 22.85.

The government reported earlier that the August consumer price index edged up just O.1 per cent and retail sales rose 0.2 per cent.

Both were below analyst predict ions and caused bond prices to soar, pushing the interest rate yield on the benchmark 30-year Treasury bond below 7 per cent.
