Shares finished firmer to close above the key 4,200 level on the Xetra DAX, reflecting all-day trading, although traders said the move was technical rather than fundamental. "We're mainly up on Japan and the dollar is well maintained so sentiment is slightly better," one dealer said.

Paris CAC-40: 2976.09 (+43.34)

Shares put on a late spurt to close well above the 2,950 resistance level. "It's true there have been plenty of buyers but I'm a bit doubtful about some of the rises we've had in some stocks," one sceptical trader said.
