LSE investigates AIB takeover rumours

Takeover rumours which drove Allied Irish Banks' share price to a record high at the beginning of February are being investigated by the London Stock Exchange. AIB's head of investor relations, Mr Maurice Crowley, said the inquiry arose following fresh takeover rumours on Wednesday, the day AIB announced its financial results. However, market sources are doubtful that the LSE will be able to come up with anything substantive from its investigations.
