THE law has outflanked business, entertainment and the professions in the inaugural" Monaghan Person of the Year" competition. Barrister Patrick MacEntee has taken the honours, beating off a diverse group including Mackie Moyna, Ardal O'Hanlon, Paddy Cole and the Bishop of Ferns, Brendan Comiskey.

Other nominees included Dr George Duffy, co-founder of the Blackrock Clinic and Prof Shaun McCann of the St James' Hospital Bone Marrow Research Unit. The award is organised by the Monaghan Association in Dublin.

A formal presentation on the award will be made to Mr MacEntee in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin next month.

The dinner will be sponsored by Price Waterhouse, whose managing partner Donal O'Connor just happens to come from that part of the world.
